Selection criteria

What insulation task must the film perform?

Start with the component and the area that must be electrically separated. Product data distinguishes, among other things, PET and polyimide film backings, adhesive systems and dimensions. Operating stress and the form in which the material can be applied also matter. A property of the backing alone does not describe the performance of the complete adhesive assembly; compare the data for the specific product.

ELECTRICAL FILMS IN THE RANGE

Films and electrical tapes in the product listing

The existing listing covers films and electrical tapes. It includes insulating products as well as other electrical functions; check what insulation task each item is designed to perform. For a more focused selection, the electrical insulation film page covers the application-specific requirements.

INSULATION AND SHIELDING

Assess backing, adhesive and application separately

Select an insulating product by its construction and the required electrical function. The catalogue includes, for example, PET-based insulating tapes from tesa and polyimide films from 3M. Dielectric strength, temperature limits and suitability for the component cannot be determined from the material group alone. The specific product data and planned processing are decisive.

The neighbouring range also includes shielding films and electrically conductive films. Their functions must be distinguished from electrical insulation. Krückemeyer GmbH can cut suitable technical films or convert them into die-cut parts for the component geometry. Tell us which areas must be insulated, the material, the required shape and the operating conditions; we will assess the material and format for your enquiry.

INSULATING FILM QUESTIONS

How does insulating film differ from shielding film?

Insulating film is selected for an electrical separation task; shielding film serves a different function. In the existing electrical tape range, insulating tape and shielding tape are separate product groups. Whether an item suits your component depends on its construction, electrical function and operating conditions. If your task is to shield against electromagnetic effects, the shielding film page leads to that selection question. For insulation, the insulating product's data remains decisive.

What information is needed to choose self-adhesive insulating film?

Identify the areas to be separated, the substrate, operating stress and how the film will be applied. Depending on the item, product data states the film backing, adhesive layer and dimensions. These features must work together in the application. Check the electrical load capacity for the specific item; the term “insulating film” does not tell you how much it can withstand. If you need a cut piece or die-cut part, also describe the contour and desired delivery format. Krückemeyer GmbH can then assess the material and converting for the specific task.

Are PET and polyimide films interchangeable for the same insulation task?

Whether PET and polyimide films are interchangeable depends on the specific product and insulation task. The catalogue contains both PET-based insulating products and polyimide films, each with its own product description. A comparison must cover the complete construction of backing and adhesive, the electrical requirement, and the conditions during processing and use. A property of the backing material must not be extended to the adhesive or the finished component. Compare the data for the specific items and test the selected format in your application before specifying an alternative.

How can insulating film be converted to a component contour?

Krückemeyer GmbH processes suitable technical films into cut pieces and die-cut parts for insulating electronic components. A useful contour and delivery format depend on the material, component and planned process step. State the area to be insulated, the geometry and how the part will be applied. Cutting the film does not necessarily alter its electrical properties. Whether the finished part insulates as required depends on the selected product and how it is used in the component.
