COLD EXPOSURE · FILM SELECTION
Cold protection film for low-temperature applications
Which film suits your component when it is exposed to cold? The temperature profile, substrate and required function determine the choice. Krückemeyer GmbH helps you assess the material and a suitable converted format.
01
Selection criteria
Clarify the cold exposure and film function
State the temperatures your component faces, how long it is exposed to cold and whether it undergoes changes between warm and cold conditions. Then clarify whether the film should protect a surface, adhere to a substrate or perform a thermal function. An adhesive's cold resistance alone says nothing about whether the complete assembly provides thermal insulation.

Choosing cold protection film
Match cold protection film to the component and process
At low temperatures, the film, adhesive, surface and application process must work together. A material's cold resistance alone does not tell you whether the complete assembly provides thermal insulation. For an enquiry, provide the substrate, temperature profile, stresses, required function and preferred supply format. These details allow the suitability of a product and its converted form to be assessed for your application.

Questions about cold exposure
When is a cold protection film suitable for my component?
It is suitable only when the specific product meets the application's requirements. These include the temperature profile, duration of cold exposure, substrate and stresses during use. The category name alone cannot establish suitability. Also tell us whether the film is primarily intended to protect a surface, provide adhesion or influence heat transfer. Our advisers can then compare the product information with your component and the planned application process.
Does cold resistance mean that a film provides thermal insulation?
No. Cold resistance describes the potential suitability of a material or adhesive for low temperatures; it says nothing about the thermal insulation of the complete component. Whether a cold protection film reduces heat loss depends on the specific construction. Any claim about insulation performance requires assessment of the complete assembly. The bond and substrate also matter. If insulation is your goal, state that function explicitly so that selection does not rely on temperature resistance alone.
What information does Krückemeyer need to assess the film?
Provide the component surface, temperature profile including any changes, duration of use and required function of the film. For converting, the required shape, dimensions and subsequent processing are helpful. If you have a specific product in mind, include its name and available technical documents. This allows the material, adhesive and supply format to be assessed for your application without transferring a property from a similar product.
Can the film be cut to a suitable shape?
An application-specific converted format is possible if the source material, geometry and process are suitable. Krückemeyer GmbH processes suitable materials into dimensions, shapes and supply formats appropriate to their use. Cutting does not create additional cold resistance or insulation performance. Provide the conditions of use along with the required shape. Our advisers can then assess whether the selected material and planned processing work together.
