Selection criteria

Which release liner suits your process?

The adhesive system, release behaviour and type of application are key. The liner protects the adhesive, while its construction affects handling. Also check whether the film is intended for manual handling, automated application or the planned die-cut shape.

SELECTING A RELEASE LINER

Choose the liner for the adhesive and process

A release liner film is the removable covering of an adhesive layer. The backing, release coating and release behaviour need to suit the specific adhesive system and process. For die-cut parts and automated operations, the shape, web handling and delivery form also matter. Tell us the adhesive tape or adhesive, substrate, processing step and required dimensions; we will assess a suitable format and converting options.

RELEASE LINER QUESTIONS

What is a release liner used for on adhesive tape?

It covers the adhesive until application and is removed during processing. The liner is therefore part of the handling concept: its material and release behaviour must suit the adhesive and the workflow. The suitability of a particular release liner cannot be inferred from the material name alone; the information for the specific product combination is decisive.

Which properties matter in automated application?

Release behaviour, the tear strength of the specific liner and web handling matter in automated application. Manufacturer information distinguishes polypropylene, polyester and polyethylene release liners by processing characteristics. Suitability needs to be checked for the chosen tape, liner and operation; the polymer name on its own does not establish suitability.

Can a release liner be used for die-cut parts?

Yes. The liner is one of the features considered when producing and processing die-cut parts. The specific tape construction, shape and behaviour of the liner during die cutting and subsequent removal are important. Provide the required part shape and delivery form so that the construction and converting method can be assessed for your application.

Is every release liner heat-resistant?

No. The position of this page in the film navigation does not prove that every listed release liner is heat-resistant. The temperature profile, exposure duration, adhesive and any additional loads must be checked for the specific product. A statement about the backing or release coating does not constitute approval for the entire adhesive tape or finished application.
