Selection criteria

Choose UV-resistant film by task and construction

First establish whether you need to protect a surface or bond or repair a film. Then compare backing material, adhesive, substrate, outdoor exposure and the service life documented for the individual product. tesa 4648, for example, combines a UV-stabilised PE film with a natural rubber adhesive; its stated properties cannot be transferred to other films.

GUIDE TO UV EXPOSURE

Assess service life and converting separately

tesa 4648 is documented for repairing silage films outdoors; its product information states UV and water resistance for up to twelve months. A film protecting painted surfaces serves a different purpose. When you enquire, provide the substrate, UV exposure, service life, geometry and required delivery format. Krückemeyer GmbH can then assess the material and suitable converting options.

QUESTIONS ABOUT UV-RESISTANT FILMS

What does UV-resistant mean for a self-adhesive film?

UV-resistant refers to a resistance to UV exposure documented for a particular product under specified conditions. It is neither a property of every film nor an automatic guarantee for the complete adhesive bond. For the tesa 4648 film tape, the product information describes a UV-stabilised PE film and outdoor resistance for up to twelve months. Other films may use different backings and adhesives and have different permitted service lives. Review the product information and your operating conditions before specifying the material and format.

How does the substrate affect the choice of UV-resistant film?

The substrate affects the suitability of the adhesive layer and how the material is applied. tesa 4648 is documented for repairing damaged silage films; its PE backing and natural rubber adhesive belong to that particular construction. This does not establish general adhesion on other surfaces. Provide the material, surface condition and expected load so that the film can be assessed for the actual substrate. For protective films, the intended application period and subsequent removal also need separate consideration.

How do UV-resistant film tapes differ from protective films?

Depending on the product, film tapes bond or repair, while protective films cover a surface for an intended period of use. tesa 4648, for example, is described as a repair tape for silage films; tesa Bodyguard 50530 PV3 protects painted surfaces during storage and transport. You therefore need to decide before selection whether the product must be removed after use or remain on the component. UV resistance alone establishes neither the protective task nor removability.

What information does Krückemeyer GmbH need to convert UV-resistant films?

To assess your request, provide the specific film product or required function, the substrate, UV exposure, service life, dimensions, shape and delivery format. Krückemeyer GmbH can convert suitable films and tapes for an application, for example by cutting or die cutting. Converting does not replace an assessment of the selected product's UV resistance and does not create a new material property. Please also describe handling in your production process and whether the film must later be removed.
