SELF-ADHESIVE PE FILMS
Self-adhesive PE film: PE backings and adhesive systems
Self-adhesive PE film can protect surfaces during processing, transport or assembly. Depending on the product, PE-UHMW film can also be used for sliding and abrasion applications. Select the specific construction to match the substrate, exposure and intended removal.

Selection criteria
Which PE film fits the task?
When selecting a self-adhesive polyethylene film (PE film), is the aim temporary surface protection or a sliding contact surface? The range includes PE backings with different adhesive systems. Check the substrate, exposure, processing format and, for protective films, the intended service period and removal. Suitability follows from the specific product construction, not from the term PE alone.

SELECTING PE FILM
Distinguishing protective film from sliding film
For temporary protection, the surface, application pressure, processing steps and subsequent removal matter. For sliding applications, the contact point and abrasion take priority: tesa® 51206 is a PE-UHMW film with a pure acrylic adhesive for such contact points. Other PE films have different constructions and are therefore not automatically equally suitable.
If you need cut widths or an application-specific shape, describe the component, substrate, exposure and required delivery format. Krückemeyer GmbH will assess the material and converting options for your application.

QUESTIONS ABOUT PE FILM
What can self-adhesive PE film be used for?
That depends on the specific product. The assigned range includes PE films for temporary surface protection and PE-UHMW film for sliding and abrasion applications. A protective film covers a surface during defined processing steps; at a sliding contact point, its behaviour under friction matters instead. The substrate, adhesive system and exposure must match the product in each case. Whether the film adheres, can be removed without residue or withstands specific environmental conditions depends on the product and its use.
How do PE protective film and PE-UHMW sliding film differ?
They address different selection tasks within the range shown here. PE protective films are considered for temporary protection of a surface. By contrast, tesa® 51206 is a PE-UHMW film with pure acrylic adhesive for sliding contacts exposed to abrasion. The film construction, adhesive and operating conditions are decisive. Their shared PE designation does not make the products technically equivalent. For a protection task, also check how long the film will remain in place and how it is to be removed.
What information helps when selecting a PE protective film?
Specify the substrate and surface to be protected, along with the processing steps before the film is removed. The intended service period, mechanical exposure, possible environmental conditions and required delivery format also matter. Product data identify the actual PE backing and adhesive system. Whether a film adheres sufficiently to your substrate and can subsequently be removed as intended must be checked for the specific application. Dimensions and component geometry are also helpful if cut pieces or die-cut parts are needed.
Can PE film be converted for processing?
Krückemeyer converts technical films into application-specific dimensions and shapes. Which converting method is appropriate and feasible depends on the source material, geometry and required delivery format. Describe the PE film or the protection or sliding task, the dimensions and the subsequent processing step. This allows the production team to assess a suitable format. Converting does not change the properties of the material or adhesive; the film’s suitability must still be checked on the component for the intended application.
