SELF-ADHESIVE OPTICAL FILMS
Reflective Film for Traffic Signs and Markings
Reflective film is designed to return light towards the viewer and make signs or markings visible. Choose a suitable product by location, retroreflective performance, substrate and processing; Krückemeyer GmbH can help with converting.

Selection criteria
Choose reflective film by application and construction
Start with the sign or marking: where will it be applied, from which viewing directions must it be visible, and what retroreflective performance does the application require? The range includes microprismatic films for traffic signs and flexible versions for vehicle markings. The term reflective film alone establishes neither a performance class nor suitability for a substrate. Compare the information for the specific product series and check the substrate, geometry and processing method.

REFLECTIVE FILMS IN THE RANGE
Self-adhesive reflective films in the range
The range includes different reflective films, including microprismatic series for traffic signs and flexible films for markings. The specifications of each product and version govern the choice.

SELECTION BY REFLECTION AND PROCESSING
Which reflective film suits your marking?
For traffic signs, the documented 3M product lines differ in retroreflective performance: the manufacturer's document assigns High Intensity Prismatic Series 3930 to class RA2 C and Diamond Grade DG³ Series 4090 to class RA3 C. These classifications refer to the named series and do not replace a check of the specific version. For vehicle markings, the range also includes 3M Flexible Reflexfolie 823-11i, a flexible, metallised version. Include the location, substrate, required shape and processing method in your enquiry. Krückemeyer GmbH can assess a suitable film and converting method.

QUESTIONS ABOUT REFLECTIVE FILM SELECTION
How do reflective films for traffic signs differ?
They differ, among other things, in documented retroreflective performance and intended use. The 3M manufacturer document describes High Intensity Prismatic Series 3930 as a microprismatic reflective film in class RA2 C and assigns Diamond Grade DG³ Series 4090 to class RA3 C. Those classes cannot be applied to every reflective film in the range. Check the requirements at the installation location and the data for the specific product version.
Is every self-adhesive reflective film suitable for vehicle markings?
No. The range includes 3M Flexible Reflexfolie 823-11i, a flexible, metallised version described specifically for vehicle warning markings. Other listed films are described, for example, for traffic signs. The vehicle surface, contour, service conditions and requirements for the marking matter when choosing a product. Suitability cannot be inferred from the word “self-adhesive” alone.
What must be clarified before reflective film is cut?
First establish the selected product and its intended use. We then need the shape, dimensions, substrate and planned processing step. This information helps assess whether a cut piece or die-cut part supports the required marking and how it should be supplied. Retroreflective performance comes from the film and its product construction; converting does not create a higher reflection class.
What information belongs in an enquiry about reflective film?
State the function of the marking, the location, substrate and required geometry. If a particular retroreflection class or product series is specified, include that information and the applicable requirements for your use. For the delivery format, indicate whether you need a roll, cut piece or die-cut part. Krückemeyer GmbH can then assess the product and processing with you.
