A carrier-free transfer adhesive film may suit a thin bond. For narrow outlines or intricate die-cut parts, a suitable film backing can make handling easier. How does a 3M transfer adhesive film differ from a film with a backing?
A transfer adhesive film is an adhesive layer without a permanent backing. In a double-sided film with a backing, adhesive sits on both sides of the carrier material. 3M describes transfer constructions as flexible and conformable. Depending on their construction, backed versions can be easier to handle, die cut and dispense. The parts to be joined, required outline and processing method guide the choice. Check the information for the individual product: its construction alone does not approve it for an application.
What information helps select a 3M double-sided adhesive film?
Specify both parts and surfaces, the expected loads and service conditions, and the required thickness and shape of the bond.
